After receiving feedback from community members about their displeasure with the sand under the park’s play equipment, SACG took this on as a community improvement project. A plan was developed in conjunction with the city to remove the sand and replace it with wood chips designed for playground use. City staff used their equipment to remove the sand and SACG spent $5,100 to purchase three semi loads of wood chips. Twenty five SACG members and other community volunteers placed the mulch under the equipment. Greg Peacock, Luke Paige and Larry Beatty used their equipment to bring the wood chips into the play area and volunteers raked and spread the chips.
