CITY PARKS TREE PLANTING
2021
SACG obtained a grant of $8,843 from Trees Forever and Alliant Energy to plant trees in the parks and other public spaces as part of the recovery from the August 2020 derecho. These funds were used to purchase 61 trees and on May 8, 2021 community volunteers gathered to plant and mulch them. This was a real community effort. Chuck and Charlie Betterton donated their time and equipment to dig the holes. The local 4-H club, Lion’s Club, FFA chapter, firemen and SACG volunteers all assisted in this effort. In addition, we were joined by two special guests - Molly Walkner, Field Coordinator for Trees Forever, was on hand to demonstrate how to properly plant a tree, and Katelyn Folkmann, Miss US Agriculture for Benton County, also stopped by to make sure we were handling our tools properly.
