SHELLSBURG AREA COMMUNITY GROUP > PAST PROJECTS
BRIDGE VIDEO
January, 2024
In October of 2023, as the completion of the new bridge drew closer, Mayor Speckner asked if SACG would produce a video that would commemorate the 108 year old, historic spandrel bridge. SACG agreed. Over the next few months, SACG volunteers and a few friends spent hours researching, scripting, transferring, narrating and editing a video called Just Over the Bridge. 90 percent of all contributions were voluntary. SACG and the City contributed the funding for the remainder. The SACG members involved were:
Producer/Director - Jim Hidinger
Historians - Sandy Beatty, Larry Beatty, Lonnie Speckner
Secondary Narrations - Sandy Beatty, Bob Thorkildson
Other Assistance - Nancy Thorkildson, Jill Hidinger
In addition, these non-Shellsburg residents were kind enough to offer their time and talents:
Wayne Anderson - video editing and transfers
Alex Anderson - video transfers
Stevie Ballard - research and scripting
Clay Bergren - main narration
The video could not have been made without the existence and assistance of the Shellsburg History Museum and its extensive collection of Shellsburg photos, letters and other historical items.
The video is available on the City website, the SACG website, at the City Library and at the Shellsburg History Museum. Here's a link.
